What Was I Thinking?

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you know that I'm crazy about retro things from the 1920s to mid-century. So, what was I thinking when I bought this Staffordshire-like figurine at my local thrift? I don't even like her! She definitely looks old and has some things in common with Staffordshire, but will probably turn out to be 1950s Made-in-Japan (before Japan was known for high-end electronics and cars and just was known for cheap).

I suppose every thrift & estate sale shopper dreams of getting an 'Antiques Roadshow' item. You know how it works -- pay $2 for it and it turns out to be worth (gasp) thousands! Maybe I thought this would be mine. HA! Anyway, hope springs eternal -- our antique mall is going to have an appraisal day and I might still spring for a look at her. What do you think -- Staffordshire or Japanese? $2 or $200?

I'm intrigued too. From what I googled, she could definitely be a Staffordshire figurine. What is it that she's holding, though? I can't make that out.

@De tout: She's holding on to some sort of bundle of sticks (or straw) on her back.

@Rosa Lily: I agree -- I find her scary (and a little creepy) as well!

She's German. A lower priced figure for your whatnot shelf or piano from the late 1800s
