Snowed In

If I'm honest, I'd re-title this post  "Snowed In...well, not really",  The snowpocalypse they promised us last night (6-8") didn't really materialize -- at least not until it had continued to snow all day.  So I could have gone out and done some shopping or gone to the booth this morning, when we only had 2 or 3".  But there's something psychological about snow days and, once you've gotten in the mood to be snowed in, you just stay in!

So I've been catching up on projects around here -- you can almost see the entire top of the pool table in the basement!  Once I have it completely emptied off, I'm going to get out the SEVERAL bushel baskets of linens I've acquired and sort them out by type and whether they need work or not.  THOSE pictures should be entertaining!  I keep finding aprons, dish towels and tablecloths in odd places -- I'm just like a squirrel burying nuts for the winter, I guess.

I wanted to catch you up on a completed project and on a new arrival.  First the project!
Remember when I bought the nasty, smelly & moldy old 4-drawer chest full of sewing supplies?
You can just about see how filthy the bottom drawer is compared to the others (and they were nasty, too)
Well, I sold a white utility cabinet at the booth that I really wasn't expecting to sell, so I had to get something there fast.  I would have normally just kept looking at it and dithering around until FINALLY I worked on it, but necessity got me to get it clean in one hour.  It came out beautifully (Soft Scrub and pad scrubbers worked their magic again)!  The great mid-century knobs really cleaned up well and you could really see the gold starbursts on them.
Doesn't it look cute with the black & white floor?
There was just a little paint loss on the feet
I know I priced it too low because it was gone in 3 days and that NEVER happens with furniture.  Oh, well -- live and learn.

Now to show you the new arrival!  Mr. KV & I went last weekend and picked up the stereo I'd bought at a friend's estate sale.
I love the turntable & radio combo.  It's SO mid-century!
I'm so excited to have it here in my 1960s living room!  It sounds fantastic, too.  Don't you think it fits right in?
Hope you're having a great Friday -- maybe you're having a snow day, too!

Garage Sale Time

The weather is *finally* warming up and garage sales are popping up all over. It's a good thing, too -- with gas in Michigan over $4.00 a gallon, it's really hard to justify an 80 or 90-mile round trip to go to estate sales.

I went out by myself on Thursday and found a few good buys, all within 3 miles of my house (talk about saving on gas)!
Primary Pyrex mixing bowlsAnchor Hocking Savannah punch bowl setAn old crate, some US Savings stamp booklets and a few children's records to make into clocksOld homemade & brightly painted tool tote, little bench & little shelfAND (drum-roll, please) the prize of the day. . .this 1960s table! What do you think? I love the way it looks, but is it too much kitsch?
Then on Friday, my friend Bargain Hunter and I hit the sales in another part of town and found some more treasures. The best part of that day, though, was shopping with my friend. We hadn't been out together in about a month and needed to catch up! Here's what I found. . .

A large framed picture of Jesus, the Good Shepherd (dated on the back February 23, 1902 -- it was a wedding present)Two old Milton Bradley games and a string of 'Made in Japan' tin ducksTwo feedsacks and some cheese boxes that an old man turned into storage drawersA tin tray, 1960s tumbler, some recipe booklets (I just can't ever resist those) and a Pyrex butter tub, all from a church barn sale. The plaid plate was FREE at another sale! This really tall vase -- a lady told me it's for Gladioli -- and an old galvanized tub (another thing I can never walk away from)A couple of shabby chic pictures, a very cool leather souvenir snapshots album cover from Saskatoon, Canada, tiny tole trays, old utensils and a little Easter candy holderFriday's prize, though, was the bowl I posted about yesterday -- a Pyrex #404 Colonial Mist mixing bowl!
What did you find this week?

April Showers bring...Atomic Finds!

It was a rainy day in Michigan today, but that's a good thing -- you don't have to shovel rain! I managed to get out to my local thrift store and picked up 2 wonderful Atomic things!

6 Syracuse China plates with a wonderful star pattern in chartreuse, rust and teal
A fantastic melmac platter in pink, blue & gray (I think I have to keep this one)!Yesterday was 'Dealer Day' at the antique mall and after Bargain Hunter and I finished updating the booth I walked around to see what other people had for sale. I found a Pyrex bowl I just couldn't resist -- it's my newest passion: Flamingo Pink. I think it's actually a casserole missing a lid, but I don't care. Look at how good it looks with the melmac platter!
I had just picked up a Flamingo Pink round cake pan, which is already in the cabinet with the pink striped Pyrex mixing bowls. My British readers might recognize the royal coach tumbler from Queen Elizabeth's coronation on the second shelf. I might share pictures of all my coronation souvenirs (no, I wasn't there...) some day, but that's another post.
